Kenmore Business Alliance Meets First Thursday of Each Month

Coffee with Council February 5

The Kenmore City Council invites community members to Coffee with Council on Monday, February 5, at 7:30 a.m. at Diva Espresso located in the Hangar, 6728 NE 181st Street. These informal sessions are typically on the first Monday of the month at 7:30 a.m. and the third Saturday at 8:00 a.m., and provide an informal opportunity to ask questions, discuss issues and offer suggestions on any topic of interest. Take advantage of this great opportunity and get to know your City Council.

Community Emergency Response Team Training Begins February 8

Educate yourself and others by becoming a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) member. The Northshore Emergency Management Coalition is hosting a CERT training program that educates participants about local hazards, basic disaster preparedness and provides hands-on training that includes fire safety, light search and rescue, and disaster medical operations. Training takes place 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. on Thursdays February 8 - March 24 at the Northshore Fire Department. Space is limited, so be sure to sign up soon.

Ballots are due February 13

Don't forget to turn in those ballots! There are three ways to do so: 

By mail - Put a first-class stamp on your ballot and mail it back to King County Elections. Your ballot must be postmarked by election day, Tuesday, February 13.

Ballot drop boxes - Return your ballot to a ballot drop box by 8 p.m. election day - no stamp required. Plan ahead to avoid lines. Kenmore has its own drop box on the west side of City Hall along NE 68th Avenue.

Accessible voting centers - King County accessible voting centers (AVCs) in Seattle, Renton, and Bellevue are open to voters who may have difficulty completing their mail ballot. AVC's are open to everyone. 

Hispanic Arte & Culture Exhibit Opens March 2 at Kenmore City Hall

The Arts of Kenmore Gallery at Kenmore City Hall will exhibit culturally interpretative works by local artists of Hispanic and Latino heritage, curated to enrich and engage our growing Northshore community, March 2 - May 24.

City Manager Rob Karlinsey delivered the annual State of the City address to the Kenmore community on Wednesday, January 17. Rob highlighted recent traffic safety enhancements, economic development programs, and environmental improvements that are contributing to Kenmore’s successes today.

Walkways & Waterways Open House Review

About 60 people attended the Walkways and Waterways Open House for the NE Juanita Drive and 68th Avenue NE Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety Improvement Projects on January 25. The City received helpful feedback from the public on the designs, which staff will review and discuss at following meetings. Many attending citizens who live along the 68th Avenue NE corridor were pleased that the City is moving forward with a reduced cross section to help preserve existing trees and reduce driveway impacts.

An open house about the waterway improvements will take place in spring 2018.

Puget Sound Energy Franchise Agreement

In recent years the City, with the help of our residents and businesses, has taken steps to aggressively push for improved electric reliability. On January 22, City Council discussed a proposed Franchise Agreement and the Memorandum on Performance and Reliability and is expected to continue the discussion in February.

Sign up for Alert Northshore

The City of Kenmore has recently added a new means of contacting Kenmore residents: The Alert Northshore Emergency Notification System.

This service allows City officials to text, email or phone all or targeted areas in Kenmore in case of an emergency situation that requires immediate action, such as an evacuation, contaminated water, hazardous chemical spill, road closures, etc. This service is available to those who live or own property within the boundaries of the City of Kenmore or the City of Lake Forest Park.

Mayor David Baker Appointed to Sound Transit Board

Longtime transportation and transit advocate Mayor David Baker has been appointed to Sound Transit’s Board of Directors to represent the East King Subarea. The Mayor’s four-year term began in January. King County Executive Dow Constantine’s appointment of Mayor Baker was recently approved by the King County Council.

Under the leadership of Mayor Baker and the City Council, Kenmore has promoted transit use through signature investments such dedicated bus lanes, sidewalks and streetscape improvements on State Route 522 through the city, and enacted Transit Oriented Development regulations to encourage housing in areas close to regional transit routes.

New Exhibit in the Hangar at Town Square Featuring Northshore Students' Photography

The City is displaying a "Northshore Exclusive" exhibit in the Hangar, 6728 NE 181st Street, featuring work from the 2017 Washington State High School Photography Competition. After being on display at the Tacoma Art Museum and the Seattle Art Museum, Kenmore is proud to present the winning photography of Inglemoor, Bothell, and Woodinville High School students now through March 1.
