Heating

Energy efficient heating for over 100 homes

A number of homes in our area could get their heating systems revamped thanks to a new scheme.

The scheme, which will offer qualifying residents the chance to upgrade from storage or room heaters, or solid fuel fires to A-rated gas central heating for little or no cost, is being offered by the South Humber Energy Efficiency Partnership (SHEEP) across North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire

Householders living in specific postcode areas, or those that receive certain income related benefits could take part in the scheme. Residents that have a low household income or suffer from a cold related illness could also qualify for support (subject to survey).

Scunthorpe Central

Work to improve Scunthorpe library and turn it into a new community hub called Scunthorpe Central, catering for a wide range of needs, is nearing completion.

With only a couple of weeks to go before it opens to the public, Cllr Julie Reed, North Lincolnshire Council’s cabinet member for Adults and Health, was given a guided tour to see just how it is shaping up.

The project is part of the regeneration plans to transform the town centre in a £60m investment.

It will become a focal point for people to meet, borrow books, access job and training opportunities and get housing and health advice, plus a whole range of information.

Community Alert

police car

Want to know what's happening in your neighbourhood?

Have you ever seen a police car pass by only to discover the road ahead is closed? Or heard a rumour about a run of crime on your street and wished you had known about it sooner?

Humberside Police has recently launched a new community alert system to enable residents, businesses and community groups to get information about what is happening in their local area.

The new system, called My Community Alert, allows residents to register to receive real time messages about incidents happening in their neighbourhood that may affect them or their family.

You can choose how you would like to receive messages, how often you would like to receive them and about the issues that matter to you, from road closures to thefts.

For more information or to sign up to start receiving alerts visit www.mycommunityalert.co.uk
