We have
had a good run of sunshine already this summer and whilst many of us embrace
the warm summer sun and higher temperatures, it can pose a risk to more
vulnerable people. Remember to look
after yourself, loved ones and neighbours who you feel may struggle to cope in
the heat. There is more information
about staying safe in the sun on the NHS website.

3-9 July 2018 is Sarcoma Awareness Week.
Sarcomas
are rare cancers that develop in the muscle, bone, nerves, cartilage, tendons,
blood vessels and the fatty and fibrous tissues.
They
can affect almost any part of the body, on the inside or the outside.
Because
sarcomas are so rare, it is important that awareness is raised and this is what
Sarcoma Awareness Week aims to do. If
more people knew what sarcoma was, they would get that lump checked out
earlier. If more GPs knew more about the signs of sarcoma, they could refer
people earlier. The earlier sarcoma is diagnosed, the greater the chance of
successful treatment.
Find out how you can get involved in Sarcoma Awareness Week.
If
you or a loved one have been recently diagnosed with sarcoma you might have a
lot of questions about what happens next and what is happening right now. There is a wealth of information on the Sarcoma UK website, there is also a UK support line on 0808 801 0401 or supportline@sarcoma.org.uk.

Caring
for someone can be a rewarding experience, but it can also be lonely, boring,
frustrating, frightening and stressful.
The
Carers’ Support Service is here to support you through difficult times and a
Carer Peer Support Group can offer the empathetic support that only another
Carer can give.
Groups
meet regularly throughout North Lincolnshire.
They are a great way to meet other Carers, socialise, develop
friendships and share information.
There
are some groups that focus on a particular group of Carers such as parent
Carers and some groups may focus on a particular condition such as the Dementia
Peer Support Group, other groups are there for any Carer in a particular area
of North Lincolnshire.
You
will be made very welcome at any of the support groups. Talk
to us if you feel that you cannot attend a group because of your caring role.
For
more information please contact the Carers’ Support Service on 01652 650585 or

An increasing problem, but one that often goes unnoticed. Elderly individuals who drink may do so in secret as a way of dealing with physical or emotional pain, loneliness or stress.
Mixing alcohol with medication can result in serious health conditions or even death so it’s especially important to look out for any signs if you suspect a senior loved one or friend is drinking. Signs include:
A decreased interest in hobbies or leisure activities
- Memory loss
- Increased frequency in health complaints
- Slurred speech, smell of alcohol, or general change of appearance
- Diminished hygiene
- Sudden change in eating habits
More information can be found here. There is also a wealth of information on both the Adult Information Service and NHS websites.
