Events for Kids: Registration Required

Violin

Meet the Violin Storytime. Enjoy this storytime introduction to the violin! Families will read a story about the violin, sing songs, play  violin games, and get to try the violin! The session is led by Suzuki violin instructor Gretchen Rebar from the Music Institute of Chicago.

Please register your child for this program so we know you are coming, but walk ins are welcome too. Geared to preschoolers but all are welcome.Tuesday, May 7, 10:30 am, Children's Room, Main Library

Author Visit with Xelena Gonzalez. Register for a visit with Xelena Gonzalez, award winning author of All Around Us, a Latinx and Indigenous introduction to the circle of life. Xelena will follow a reading of  All Around Us with a movement-based retelling of the tale using Tai Chi. Participants will then engage in a group story circle using their own creative expression.This program is appropriate for ages 5 to adult.

En este programa único y dinámico, Xelena leerá su libro All Around Us con un recuento basado en el movimiento de la historia. Aprovechando su experiencia de cuando vivió en China, Xelena presentará a los participantes los conceptos básicos del tai chi de una manera que hará que la historia sea significativa e inolvidable. Si el tiempo lo permite, los participantes se involucrarán en un círculo de historias grupales que incluirá sus propias ideas y movimientos inspirados en el tai chi, el yoga u otras formas de expresión. Kids' Workshop in Journalism. Students from the Medill School of Journalism will teach kids (grades 3 - 5 only) about journalism! This group of NU students is a part of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), an organization that represents journalism in the United States. Scratch Class! Code a video game in Scratch with Power Up Tech Academy. Kids will learn about coding by building their own working video game with step-by-step instructions on how to make characters move, interact, keep score and more. Kahoot! Gaming for Battle 2.0. Enjoying Battle 2.0 books? Play your friends' games or show off your own ! (for D65 4th and 5th graders only.) Leer Hablar Jugar

Leer, Hablar, Jugar! An Afterschool Bilingual Storytime.  ¡Acompaña a los Purple Crayon Players para divertimento bilingüe después de la escuela! Join Purple Crayon Players for some bilingual fun after school. Summer Learning Registration Starts June 1

Summer Learning Program: A Universe of Stories -- June 1 to August 24, For All Ages. Win prizes and get encouragement for reading all summer long. Every child finishing 30 days of reading gets a free high quality paperback book they select themselves and the chance at our grand prize -- a brand new telescope! Read more. 

How Summer Learning works

  • Read for 10 days, log it, and pick up a prize (which also gains you a raffle drawing for a larger prize)
  • Read for 10 more days, log it and pick up another prize.
  • Read for 10 more days and log it to get a branch new book and an entry into our Grand Prize drawing (Win a telescope!) 
  • Register starting Saturday, June 1 at any Library location.  

Help Support Bundled Blessings Diaper Pantry

Bundled blessings

Did you know that Evanston Public Library Children's Room is a collection site for Bundled Blessings? Bundled Blessings is a diaper pantry run at First United Methodist Church that supplies diapers to families in need through partnerships with local social service agencies. 

Bring your extra diapers to the Main Children's Room for Bundled Blessings and know you are supporting a parent in need. Every year, Evanston Public Library patrons supply over 4000 diapers to nearly 300 families in our community. Thank you for your continued support!
