Dear Washingtonians,
This week, we passed the District's 24th consecutive balanced budget. The budget I sent to the Council and the budget they passed is fair, just, and bold.
By asking those who have prospered the most to share some of the upside, the Fiscal Year 2020 Budget makes big investments in keeping DC affordable for families, seniors, and longtime residents. This budget builds on our historic investments in building and preserving affordable housing, ending homelessness, creating more high-quality childcare seats and setting our students up for success, and connecting DC residents to DC jobs.
I am proud that with the Council’s and the community’s support, we passed a budget that will give more Washingtonians a fair shot and support our shared priorities of keeping DC a diverse and inclusive city.
I also want to thank and congratulate the students from Benjamin Banneker High School who learned first-hand just how important our local budget process is. Banneker students showed up, made their voices heard, and I know that our community is proud of all they have accomplished - in school and at the Wilson Building.
Sincerely,
Join Mayor Bowser on Saturday to celebrate the first home opener of the Washington Mystics at the Entertainment and Sports Arena (ESA) at a community block party prior to the game. The free block party outside of the ESA will have entertainment, arts, food, music, clinics, and more.
