MEDIA ADVISORY: Maricopa County Recorder's Office Releasing Updated Voter Registration Totals

PHOENIX— On June 7, 2019, the Maricopa County Recorder's Office revised its current voter registration totals. The updated numbers excludes 92,022 newly canceled voters whose addresses the post office has verified twice as invalid and those who have not updated their address or attempted to vote in the last two federal general elections.

“Every odd-numbered year, the Recorder's Office must comply with state and federal laws that require us to clean up the voter list by identifying inactive voters who have failed to update their address for two federal general elections and classifies those voters as canceled," Recorder Adrian Fontes said. "Cleaning up the voter database is required by the National Voter Registration Act and is necessary to ensure that we have the most up to date information from Maricopa County voters. This, in turn, maintains the security of voters' ballots." 

A voter is first listed as inactive when the Recorder's Office receives two notifications from the post office of unreturned or undeliverable mail. When a voter remains on the inactive voter list for two federal general elections, the Recorder's Office will change the voter's status to canceled, and the voter will be removed from the inactive list.

Inactive voters can have their status restored to active when they visit a Polling Location or Vote Center to vote in person. An inactive status is also updated to active if the voter signs a petition, or updates his or her information with MCRO through Maricopa.Vote, by calling the office at 602-506-1511, or by visiting ServiceArizona.com.

"Inactive voters can still head to the polls on or before Election Day and update their address in-person while checking in using our SiteBooks," Fontes said.

Once a voter's status is changed to canceled, he or she will need to re-register. Voters who have recently moved are encouraged to update their voter registration at ServiceArizona.com.

Maricopa County has 2,314,360 active registered voters, and 215,006 inactive voters.

Aviso a Los Medios De Comunicación: La Oficina de Registro del Condado de Maricopa da a Conocer los Totales Actualizados de Registro de Votantes

PHOENIX—El 7 de junio de 2019, la Oficina de Registro del Condado de Maricopa revisó sus totales actuales de registro de votantes. Los números actualizados excluyen en 92,022 votantes a los cuales actualmente se les cancelo su registro debido a que la oficina postal ha verificado dos veces como inválidas sus direcciones y aquellos que no han actualizado su dirección o no han intentado votar en las dos últimas elecciones generales federales.

"Cada año impar, la Oficina de Registro debe cumplir con las leyes estatales y federales que requieren que limpiemos la lista de votantes identificando a los votantes inactivos que no actualizaron su dirección para dos elecciones generales federales y clasificar a esos votantes como cancelados", El Registrador Adrian Fontes dijo. "La limpieza de la base de datos es requerida por la Ley Nacional de Registro de Votantes y es necesaria para asegurar que tengamos la información más actualizada de los votantes del Condado de Maricopa. Esto, a su vez, mantiene la seguridad de las boletas de los votantes". 

Un votante aparece primero como inactivo cuando la Oficina de Registro recibe dos notificaciones de la oficina postal de correo devuelto o que no se pudo entregar. Cuando un votante permanece en la lista de votantes inactivos para dos elecciones generales federales, la Oficina de Registro cambiará el estado del votante a cancelado, y el votante será eliminado de la lista inactiva.

Los votantes inactivos pueden restablecer su estado a activo cuando visitan un Lugar de Votación o Centro de Votación para votar en persona. El estado inactivo también se actualiza a activo si el votante firma una petición, o actualiza su información con MCRO a través de Maricopa.Voto, llamando la oficina al 602-506-1511, o visitando ServiceArizona.com.

"Los votantes inactivos todavía pueden dirigirse a las urnas el Día de las Elecciones o antes, y actualizar su dirección en persona mientras se registran utilizando nuestros SiteBooks", dijo Fontes.

Una vez que el estado de un votante se cambia a cancelado, él o ella tendrá que volver a registrarse. A los votantes que se han mudado recientemente se les recomienda actualizar su registro de votantes en ServiceArizona.com.

El Condado de Maricopa tiene 2,314,360 votantes registrados activos y 215,006 votantes inactivos.
