Treasurer Godlewski, BCPL Provide $2 million for Economic Development

MADISON—Today, the Board of Commissioners of Public Lands (BCPL) chaired by Treasurer Sarah Godlewski approved almost $2 million in loans for economic development incentives in Muskego and Reedsburg.

The City of Muskego in Waukesha county plans to finance a new housing structure of 90 units for apartments, retail, and restaurants. The development will provide needed facilities to bolster community and economic growth. Their loan totaled $1,444,690.

In Reedsburg, their city is also financing a housing project to develop an apartment complex of 50 units. The city of Reedsburg took out a loan worth $535,000 to provide as a direct business grant to assist with construction costs on the approximately $5 million project.

Treasurer Godlewski said, “These projects are critical to the sustainable growth and economic health of our communities in Wisconsin. With over 60% of the BCPL’s state trust fund loan program portfolio supporting projects like these, I’m committed to continuing to ensure that this fund will remain strong to support our state’s towns, cities, and counties.”

The BCPL operates entirely on program revenue, without taxpayer money and distributes more than 96 cents of every dollar of interest earned on BCPL State Trust Fund investments to Wisconsin’s public schools.  The 2019 earnings of $36.2 million are the sole source of state funding for K‑12 public school library materials.
