Advancing Science: The Official Newsletter of the NIJ Director

National Research Conference. Evidence to Action.

I’m excited to share that registration is now open for NIJ’s National Research Conference. The conference is free and open to all, but space is limited, so be sure to register soon.

We are currently soliciting poster presentation proposals for the conference. Anyone can submit an abstract for consideration, but priority will be given to students and NIJ grantees and we’ll cover travel costs for up to 20 students whose submissions are accepted. The submission deadline is Friday, March 10, so don’t delay!

Attention doctoral students: the Graduate Research Fellowship opportunity is now open, with a deadline of May 2. This is one of my favorite solicitations because it supports the next generation of scholars in criminal justice across a wide array of academic disciplines. Check out a list of our esteemed past recipients dating back to 2000!

NIJ New Funding Opps 2023

The FY 2023 solicitation season is now in full swing at NIJ, with several solicitations already on the street! Keep an eye on our current funding page so you can get a jump on the proposal development process. I also recommend that researchers and grant administrators subscribe to NIJ’s funding opportunities and updates emails, which will alert you the moment that new solicitations are released.

OPEN SOLICITATIONS

NIJ FY23 W.E.B. Du Bois Program of Research on Reducing Racial and Ethnic Disparities in the Justice System

Speaking of solicitations, as we recognize Black History Month, I want to call out our W.E.B. Du Bois solicitation, named in honor of the great American sociologist, author, and civil rights activist.

This funding opportunity invites research proposals designed to identify racial and ethnic inequality in the justice system and assess efforts to mitigate these biases.
