FCPS Community Information and Upcoming Meeting on Opioid Awareness

Dear Franconia District Families -

Earlier this week, I participated in a very important Youth Substance Use Community Meeting at Whitman Middle School. The FCPS Office of Student Safety and Wellness, in partnership with the Fairfax County Police and the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board, developed this presentation.

Thank you to all the parents and care givers who attended! For those families who were unable to be there, I wanted to share this important presentation with you.

I believe it is impactful to have small, ongoing conversations with our children. Research shows that starting conversations early, by age 9, is effective. This can do a lot to help prevent underage drinking and other drug use.

This information is for parents and caregivers of children, teens and young adults, to provide practical tips on how to start and continue having conversations about underage drinking and substance abuse. Click here or on the image below.

In addition, here is a link to a webinar provided by the Fairfax County Opioid and Substance Use Taskforce. This webinar contains a thorough discussion on opioids.

In closing, FCPS Division Superintendent - Dr. Michelle Reid - will be holding a community meeting on opioid awareness this coming Monday, March 13, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. See details below.

I hope to see you Monday evening.

Best,
Tammy
