City launches application process for $25M Sidewalk Replacement program
- Mayor adds $20.5M of budget surplus funds to expand sidewalk replacement; work to take place this year.

Repairs for sidewalks will be given priority for in the following categories:
- Near schools, churches and parks
- Identified and requested by registered neighborhood block clubs
- Adjacent to city road resurfacing projects
- Requested by elderly and disabled residents
- Along city jurisdiction commercial corridors where cleanup and beautification is planned
- existing backlog of requests from prior years
Applications open for ShotStoppers, a new $10 million Community Violence Intervention program
- Mayor announced crime reduction program during last night’s State of the City address
- City seeks community partners to reduce homicides and shootings through community violence intervention in the hardest-hit areas
- Community groups will have flexibility to define their own violence prevention strategies, ability to earn performance grants up to $700K based on success bringing down gun violence
- Applications are due April 10th; informational meeting to be held on March 15th for interested organizations.
To apply, organizations should take the following steps:
- Register for a Unique Entity ID with SAM.gov
- Register as a City supplier at www.detroitmi.gov/supplier
Submit an application through the City’s system at www.detroitmi.gov/supplier
Below are the steps to add a home to the DWSD Lead Service Line Replacement Program:
- The homeowner or adult occupant (including a tenant) should watch this DWSD video that will help them determine if they have a lead service line. If the line is copper, there is no need for replacement.
- Take a photo with their mobile device of the water service line coming into the basement, crawl space, or first floor at the water meter. They can ask a trusted friend or family member for help if needed.
- If there is a lead service line, they can put their house on the DWSD Lead Service Line Replacement Program wait list.
- Once added, DWSD will immediately send them the agreement form to review and sign.
- After DWSD verifies all the information, the house will be placed on the replacement wait list.
- The contractor or DWSD inspector we reach out to the homeowner or occupant to make the appointment for replacement once we get to their neighborhood.
