EPA Announces $16 Million in New P2 Grant Opportunities

Earlier this month, EPA announced two new grant funding opportunities for states and Tribes to provide technical assistance to businesses seeking to develop and adopt P2 practices that advance environmental justice. The grants are funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and require no matching funds from the grantee.

Coffee, Pickles and P2! New Video from Grantee: Colorado Green Business Network

Check out this new video from the Colorado Green Business Network (CBGN), an EPA P2 grantee, that highlights how CBGN-certified members are integrating P2 practices in their operations. The Network is a voluntary leadership and recognition program for businesses that provides free P2 technical assistance. See how they’ve helped a coffee company, pickle company, Denver Water Department, and others be more sustainable by reducing waste and conserving resources.

New Podcast: The Value of EPA Safer Choice for the Cleaning Industry

EPA experts recently appeared on Straight Talk, the podcast from the cleaning industry association, ISSA.  The discussion focused on the value of the Safer Choice label for consumers, manufacturers and cleaning professionals:

  • Using products certified by Safer Choice means a safer workplace and a great service to customers.
  • Nearly 2,000 cleaning products that are effective and use safer ingredients.
  • All products with the Safer Choice label are reviewed through EPA’s rigorous scientific process and only the safest possible ingredients are allowed.

The Power of P2 Grants: Pollution Prevented, Billions of Dollars Saved

EPA’s P2 program has issued nearly 500 grants between 2011-2021, totaling more than $50 million, which have helped businesses identify, develop and adopt P2 approaches. These approaches have resulted in eliminating 19.8 million metric tons of greenhouse gases, saving 49 billion gallons of water, reducing 917 million pounds of hazardous materials and pollutants, and saving of more than $2.2 billion for business.

EPA Seeks Input on Programs to Reduce Climate Impact from Construction Materials and Products

EPP grant

EPA is seeking public input on new grant and technical assistance programs and a carbon labeling program made possible by a $350 million investment from President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act. The programs will focus on construction materials with substantially lower levels of embodied greenhouse gas emissions. EPA issued a request for information in January seeking public comment on a series of questions about developing these new programs. EPA will also hold public engagement webinars to solicit feedback from experts and stakeholders.

  • March 22, 2 – 3:30 p.m. EDTGrants and Technical Assistance for Environmental Product Declarations. This webinar will ask for feedback on new grant and technical assistance programs to help business calculate and report the greenhouse gas emissions data for construction materials and products though Environmental Product Declarations.
  • April 19, 2 – 3:30 p.m. EDTNew program for Carbon Labeling. This webinar will ask for feedback on how the EPA should develop a new carbon labeling program for construction materials and products and products with substantially lower embodied greenhouse gas emissions.
