DC community members will hear directly from local partner organizations and DC agencies about summer programs, summer jobs, learning experiences, and more.

The Commission on Out of School Time Grants and Youth Outcomes (OST Commission) will hold a virtual public meeting on Thursday, March 23, 2023, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. The OST Commission will hear updates from the Office of Out of School Time Grants and Youth Outcomes, and the OST Commission Committees.
Individuals and representatives of organizations who wish to comment at a public meeting are asked to notify the OST Office in advance by email at learn24@dc.gov. Individuals should furnish their names, addresses, telephone numbers, and organizational affiliation, if any, and if available, submit one electronic copy of their testimony by the close of business on Tuesday, March 21st at 5:00 pm.

On behalf of Learn24 Coordinating Entities that will be announced in March, the OST Office is accepting applications from high-quality subcontractors (vendors) to provide educational, social, emotional, and/or physical health opportunities and activities for children at DC Housing Authority and DC Department of Human Services short-term family housing sites. The deadline to apply is Monday, March 22, 2023 at 5:00 pm.
This opportunity is intended for any local business, nonprofit, or individual interested in providing direct programming for children and youth ages 5 –17 (Grades K-12) with an engaging, fun, and educational camp experience. DCHS and DHS sites have not yet been identified and will be determined by the CEs as Summer 2023 approaches.
Vendors may request to offer programming to a specific age group or target population and must describe the population they wish to serve. Applicants must ensure and maintain an adult to participant ratio of at least 1:15 at all times. Deadline to apply is Wednesday March 22, 2023, at 5:00 pm.

Join the Dr. Shontia Lowe, Executive Director of the Office of Out of School Time Grants and Youth Outcomes (OST Office) for a informal conversation about your OST Office experience. These meetings will be held quarterly and will provide grantees and opportunity to hear directly from the Executive Director regarding updates coming out of the OST Office, candidly share your experience with our Office as a grantee, and to provide constructive feedback that would support the growth and development of the OST Office. Consider supporting out-of-school-time (OST) programs this tax season by making a Contribution to Taxpayer Support for Afterschool Programs for At-Risk Students on your DC individual income tax form, under the contributions section on Schedule U part II, line 2. These funds will support grants to help bring safe and meaningful opportunities to youth in the District of Columbia beyond the school day.
A contribution of as little as $1.00 can make a major impact!
Resources to Inspire Students and Educators (RISE DC) provides a summer reading literacy program called WordSTARS, which provides individualized lesson planning and intense tutoring to high school students who are below reading grade level. The program provides a holistic approach to assessing students reading and writing capabilities while providing intervention and engaging tutoring techniques for successful outcomes. WordSTARS students are then graduated into RISE College Prep Plus Program (CPP), which provides out-of-school mentoring and support with all pre-college processes including financial aid, college tours, personal statement writing and advising.

DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) announced that applications are also now being accepted for DPR’s Rec for ALL Community Grants to support programs, activities, and events for young District residents. These grants will empower community-based organizations to engage youth ages 6-18 through recreation with an emphasis on those with barriers to access. The $3 million investment is expected to support at least 250 grants that will reach over 10,000 DC youth. Rec for ALL Grants include:

Support Grants – Up to $5,000 that can be used to purchase equipment, supplies, or materials for existing programs.

Engagement Grants – Up to $10,000 to support field trips and other enrichment activities.

Event and Travel Grants – Up to $10,000 to provide travel to athletic competitions for youth groups.

Programming Grants – Up to $150,000 in funding geared toward established organizations to fund the expansion of new or existing recurring programs.

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation is accepting applications for its Youth Literacy Grant Competition. Grants of up to $4,000 will be awarded to support the implementation or expanding existing literacy programs, purchasing new technology or equipment to support literacy initiatives, or purchasing books, materials, or software for literacy programs. Humanities DC is providing capacity building grants to organizations to assist with strengthening the capacity of humanities-focused nonprofit organizations to advance their mission and serve communities across the DC region.
