School will soon be out and thousands of youth across the District will be in need of supervised programs during the summer months. If you are a community-based organization offering summer programming, please be sure to update your profile in the Learn24 Program Finder to help ensure families can learn about your program and access your services.
Families may use the Learn24 Program Finder to identify and register for programs that best meet their summer break needs. Search programs by location, ages served, types, and areas of interest.
Interested in enrolling your child in a summer program but cant afford the fee? Apply for a scholarship. Scholarships of up to $10,000 are available for individual students for use in approved OST activities in calendar year 2023, including summer programming.
The OST Youth Scholarship Program is a new program, in its second year, and it is managed by the Greater Washington Community Foundation, with the goal of increasing access to OST programs for students with specific needs. Specifically, the program will support students who may be identified as at-risk and/or in need of specific supports. Examples of programs that the scholarship may support include, but are not limited to, programs designed specifically for students with disabilities, advanced learners, and English Language Learners. Individuals not considered at-risk may also be eligible to receive a scholarship based on need and the availability of funding.
If you are an OST provider serving families in need of support, please refer them to the OST Scholarship program, to help ensure access to quality services for all children and youth across the District.
 The DC Policy Center has completed the OST Office's Needs Assessment. Out-of-school time programs, such as afterschool and summer programs, are important to many families the District of Columbia. The full findings of the needs assessment can be reviewed here.

DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) announced that applications are also now being accepted for DPR’s Rec for ALL Community Grants to support programs, activities, and events for young District residents. These grants will empower community-based organizations to engage youth ages 6-18 through recreation with an emphasis on those with barriers to access. The $3 million investment is expected to support at least 250 grants that will reach over 10,000 DC youth. Rec for ALL Grants include:

Support Grants – Up to $5,000 that can be used to purchase equipment, supplies, or materials for existing programs.

Engagement Grants – Up to $10,000 to support field trips and other enrichment activities.

Event and Travel Grants – Up to $10,000 to provide travel to athletic competitions for youth groups.

Programming Grants – Up to $150,000 in funding geared toward established organizations to fund the expansion of new or existing recurring programs.
Applications will be accepted on an on-going rolling basis until Monday, July 30, 2023 or until funds are exhausted. Learn more about this opportunity here.
The Philip L. Graham Fund supports local nonprofit organizations that provide both essential and enriching programs to the communities in the Washington, DC area. Grant awards of up to $75,000 will be awarded in the following interest areas; arts and humanities, community endeavors, education, and health and human services. Shape America is accepting applications for the Tommy Wilson Memorial Grant to support recreational programs for individuals with disabilities. Grants are awarded up to $1,500 per year. For consideration, applications must be received by Thursday, June 1, 2023. Review the application here.
Chick-fil-A provides grants to nonprofit organizations that are working to strengthen neighborhoods and cities through the annual True Inspiration Awards. Organizations must be working in the areas of education, hunger, or homelessness. Awarded grants will range between $50,000 and $350,000. The deadline to apply is Thursday, June 1, 2023.
