FHWA Awards the Eastern Tribal Technical Assistance Program Center

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Local Aid Support (LAS) team is pleased to announce the final award of the seventh cooperative agreement under the Tribal Technical Assistance Program (TTAP) Center Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO). This award was made for the Eastern TTAP Center to the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) from the TTAP Center NOFO that was readvertised in December 2022.

The purpose of the TTAP Centers is to deliver the Tribal component of FHWA’s Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP). The TTAP Centers will provide American Indian and Alaska Native Tribal governments with training, technical assistance and technology services that best meet the needs of Tribal communities.

The Eastern TTAP Center serves sixty-five Tribal nations in thirty states. Given this large geographic service area, UW-Madison has partnered with Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe University and New York State LTAP Center housed at Cornell University. UW-Madison has significant experience partnering with Tribes in Wisconsin, specifically on safety initiatives including the development of the Tribal Crash Safety Dashboard. Additionally, UW-Madison has delivered several federally-funded technical transportation centers including the Midwest Transportation Workforce Center (MTWC), Center for Freight and Infrastructure Research and Education (CFIRE), and Midwest Regional University Transportation Center (MRUTC), and have been partners on numerous others. The UW-Madison plans to build on relationships, lessons learned and best practices to effectively deliver quality TTAP services to Tribal nations in the Eastern TTAP Center region.
