The Office of Out of School Time Grants and Youth Outcomes (OST Office) is currently reviewing the applications that were received for the Fiscal Year 2024 Out of School Time Grant Competitions. A total of 133 applications were received for the various competitions from organizations that provide meaningful opportunities for school-aged youth in the District of Columbia to participate in beyond school hours. Applications are currently being reviewed and decisions are expected to be announced in late August/early September.
A sincere thank you to all the organizations that have applied. The OST Office appreciates all organizations and individuals that are making continuous investments in the lives of young people in the District of Columbia.
The Commission on Out of School Time Grants and Youth Outcomes (OST Commission) is seeking stakeholders input and feedback related to the draft 2023-2026 OST Strategic Plan. Feedback must be received no later than Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at 5:00 pm to be considered. Submit feedback here.
There will be an OST Commission Meeting dedicated to discussing the draft OST Strategic Plan on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at 6:00 pm. Subsequently, on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at 6:00 pm, the OST Commission will convene another meeting, during which there is a possibility of conducting a vote on the Strategic Plan. Any individuals and representatives of organizations who wish to comment at this meeting should notify the OST Office in advance by email at learn24@dc.gov. Individuals should furnish their names, addresses, telephone numbers, and organizational affiliation, if any, and if available, submit one electronic copy of their testimony two business days prior to the meeting.
The OST Office is seeking community-based organizations and government agencies to exhibit at Afterschool in the City 2023. Selected organizations will have the chance to share directly with families about the types of offerings available to school-aged youth after the traditional school day ends for students during the school year. Organizations interested in participating should complete this form no later than Friday, July 21, 2023, to be considered.
Please note: Additionally, for FY24, please also note that exhibiting at Afterschool in the City or Summer in the City will be required for all organizations that receive funding from the OST Office. Grantees must table at a minimum of one of the two events (Afterschool in the City or Summer in the City) as a grant requirement. Registration is highly encouraged for both events.

The OST Office is accepting applications from the various high-quality afterschool and summer programs that are providing District youth with meaningful opportunities beyond the school day. Organizations are able to share with the broader public about the great work that is being done within their programming for school-aged youth in the District. Interested organizations should complete this form no later Friday, August 11, 2023, to be considered.

The Washington Urban Debate League (WUDL) uses debate to make transformative opportunities available for students in the DC area. Debate is a fun, engaging way to learn more about the world, meet other interesting young people from across the region, and prepare for the future. Debaters show more substantial academic and social-emotional growth and graduate and attend college at a higher rate than their non-debater peers. WUDL creates a space where middle and high school students attending public schools (especially Title 1 Schools) can hone their critical thinking skills, participate in an intellectual community of their peers, and grow in self-advocacy. Join the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education at one of the upcoming Summer Town Halls to review the landscape of DCPS boundaries and student assignment analysis, provide feedback on initial policy and DCPS boundary and feeder scenarios.
On Saturday, August 19, 2023, Fight For Children will host a free event that will be fun for the entire family! Come learn about afterschool programs that integrate sports with mentoring, social-emotional learning, academic tutoring, civic engagement and more. This event will take place at The Fields at RFK and will feature sports activities, games and prizes, music, special guest and food trucks. More information can be found here.
DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) announced that applications are now being accepted for DPR’s Rec for ALL Community Grants to support programs, activities, and events for young District residents. These grants will empower community-based organizations to engage youth ages 6-18 through recreation with an emphasis on those with barriers to access. The $3 million investment is expected to support at least 250 grants that will reach over 10,000 DC youth. Rec for ALL Grants include:

Support Grants – Up to $5,000 that can be used to purchase equipment, supplies, or materials for existing programs.

Engagement Grants – Up to $10,000 to support field trips and other enrichment activities.

Event and Travel Grants – Up to $10,000 to provide travel to athletic competitions for youth groups.

Programming Grants – Up to $150,000 in funding geared toward established organizations to fund the expansion of new or existing recurring programs.
Applications will be accepted on an on-going rolling basis until Monday, July 30, 2023, or until funds are exhausted. Learn more about this opportunity here.
The Events DC Community Grant Program provides financial support to qualified nonprofit organizations dedicated to supporting children through sports, performing arts, or cultural arts in the District of Columbia. The maximum grant amount is $25,000. Applications must be received by Tuesday, August 1, 2023. Apply here.
Road Runners Club of America will award grants up to $1,000 to support youth running programs across the United States. All applicants must be an official 501(c)(3), school, parent booster club, PTA, or a similar entity. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, August 1, 2023. Looking Out Foundation is accepting applications from nonprofit organizations. The average awarded grant amount ranges from $1,000 to $5,000 to organizations that focus on, but are not limited to: disadvantaged youth, public health, women, the environment, the arts, the hungry, and the homeless.
