Save the Date: Afterschool In The City 2023

Join the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education's (DME) Office of Out of School Time Grants and Youth Outcomes (OST Office) on Saturday, September 9, 2023 from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm for Afterschool In The City 2023!

Hear directly from government agencies, nonprofit organizations and more about the wide range of afterschool opportunities available for school-aged youth during the school year.

Please note: For FY24, that exhibiting at Afterschool in the City or Summer in the City will be required for all organizations that receive funding from the OST Office. Grantees must table at a minimum of one of the two events (Afterschool in the City or Summer in the City) as a grant requirement. Registration is highly encouraged for both events.

OST Strategic Plan Feedback

Reminder: Public Feedback Requested: OST Commission 2023-2026 Strategic Plan

The Commission on Out of School Time Grants and Youth Outcomes (OST Commission) is seeking stakeholders input and feedback related to the draft 2023-2026 OST Strategic Plan. Feedback must be received no later than Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at 5:00 pm  to be considered. Submit feedback here

There will be an OST Commission Meeting dedicated to discussing the draft OST Strategic Plan on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at 6:00 pm. Any individuals and representatives of organizations who wish to comment at this meeting should notify the OST Office in advance by email at learn24@dc.gov.   Individuals should furnish their names, addresses, telephone numbers, and organizational affiliation, if any, and if available, submit one electronic copy of their testimony two business days prior to the meeting. 

Learn24 Spotlight: Highlight Your Afterschool and/or Summer Program 

The OST Office is accepting applications from the various high-quality afterschool and summer programs that are providing District youth with meaningful opportunities beyond the school day. Organizations are able to share with the broader public about the great work that is being done within their programming for school-aged youth in the District. Interested organizations should complete this form no later Friday, August 11, 2023, to be considered.

Tumaini DC

The mission of Tumaini DC, Inc. is to transform communities and schools through culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and healing centered social and emotionally curricula, programming, and experiences. In the OST programming space, Tumaini DC provides after-school and summer programming that integrate social and emotional learning and entrepreneurship, in an effort of breaking the cycle of trauma and poverty simultaneously.

Join Tumaini DC on Thursday, August 3, 2023, for a showcase of the remarkable business ideas and innovative solutions developed by the ambitious DC youth during their experience in the 2023 Tumaini Summer Innovation Academy.  This event will provide a platform for these young entrepreneurs to present their business plans to a panel of esteemed judges, industry professionals, and community leaders all from the DC area. NMAAHC Hip-Hop Block Party - August 12, 2023

Join the National Museum of African American of History & Culture for a celebration on Saturday, August 12, 2023, to honor 50 years of hip-hop’s artistry, innovation and global transcendence — recognizing the culture and music that has been originated and shaped by Black America for decades. Fight For Children: Youth Sports Day - August 19, 2023

On Saturday, August 19, 2023, Fight For Children will host a free event that will be fun for the entire family! Come learn about afterschool programs that integrate sports with mentoring, social-emotional learning, academic tutoring, civic engagement and more. This event will take place at The Fields at RFK and will feature sports activities, games and prizes, music, special guest, and food trucks. More information can be found here.  

Funding Opportunities

Events DC Community Grant Program

The Events DC Community Grant Program provides financial support to qualified nonprofit organizations dedicated to supporting children through sports, performing arts, or cultural arts in the District of Columbia. The maximum grant amount is $25,000. Applications must be received by Tuesday, August 1, 2023. Apply here.

Looking Out Foundation Grants

Looking Out Foundation is accepting applications from nonprofit organizations. The average awarded grant amount ranges from $1,000 to $5,000 to organizations that focus on, but are not limited to: disadvantaged youth, public health, women, the environment, the arts, the hungry, and the homeless.  Grant applications must be received by Tuesday, August 1, 2023, to be considered. TEGNA Foundation Grants

The TEGNA Foundation Community Grants offers up to $7,500 in grant assistance to organizations operating in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area. Priority areas for this competition include programs targeting at-risk middle school students, services for veterans and nonprofits, and programs that support the LGBTQ population.  Grant applications must be received by Tuesday, August 29, 2023, to be considered. For information on how to apply for the TEGNA Foundation Community Grants, click here.

Venable Foundation Grant

The Venable Foundation is offering grants to nonprofit organizations in the Washington, DC area for projects that benefit underrepresented communities and low-income areas. Funding priorities include the environment, health, arts and culture, workforce development, education, youth impact, human services, and legal services. The average grant size is $10,000. Applications must be submitted no later than Friday, September 1, 2023, to be considered. For more information, please click here

Classics For Kids Foundation

The Classics for Kids Foundation provides grants to schools and nonprofit organizations to strengthen music education and string instrument programs. Grants are designed to forge strong local connections between students, families, and communities. The deadline to apply is Saturday, September 30, 2023.
