Human Resources Training

Human Resources

On Thursday, October 27th, the State Library will be hosting an all-day free Human Resources conference taking attendees through the lifecycle of an employee (job application through separation) from a legal perspective. Speakers from Ice Miller, LLP will cover laws and best practices with regard to hiring, wage and hour compliance, medical issues in the work place, employee performance, and more. This conference is for public library directors, trustees, human resources professionals, and supervisors.  To register for this event click here.

Certification & Standards Update

The State Library has received the last of the required approvals for the proposed changes to the certification rule.  This means the proposed changes to the certification rule will take effect January 1, 2017. We again want to thank the certification task force for all of their hard work and input on the changes to the certification rule. As a reminder, the public library standards rule is also changing January 1, 2017. The State Library will provide an opportunity to learn more about all of the upcoming changes soon. In the meantime, you can visit the State Library’s Rulemaking Docket by clicking here to review the “Changes to Public Library Standards” document in the standards section and the “Summary Changes” document in the certification section to learn more about the upcoming changes.

Update on SRCS, Indiana’s new Statewide Remote Circulation System

SRCS

Phase I of SRCS quietly rolled out for 137 Indiana libraries offering a new avenue for expanding resource sharing in the state.  SRCS, Indiana’s new Statewide Remote Circulation System allows users to search the combined catalog of over 130 public, academic and special libraries in Indiana.  Authorized users can request select materials online and have them delivered to their local library where they can check them out.

During SRCS’s first month of operation, participating patrons and staff placed 3,066 requests.

On December 1, 2016, a 60-day registration window will open for other libraries to join in with the second phase of SRCS.  There is no cost for the libraries who join SRCS during this window, however all participants are required to be willing to loan materials from their collection.  They must subscribe to the InfoExpress courier service, and they must be willing provide the staffing needed to manage an expected increase in resource sharing.

Everyone is invited to search this new super catalog at http://SRCS.Library.in.gov.  Users however must be authorized by their home library in order to place requests in SRCS.

Please direct your questions about SRCS to SteSchmidt@library.in.gov
