Dear Washingtonians,
Over the past several weeks, we’ve celebrated some important milestones – with getting tourists back to DC and with ridership on Metro – and we’ve welcomed new employers and organizations to DC. Last weekend, thousands of people came to our city for festivals downtown. We saw people out in neighborhoods across all eight wards celebrating Art All Night and the culture of DC.
This week, we celebrated the the start of the new fiscal year. Our approved budget allows us to move big ideas forward, and on October 1st, that budget went into effect. Our comeback is underway, and the investments we will make in this new fiscal year will allow us to do even more for our residents, our neighborhoods, and our businesses.
That includes investments in our residents and businesses like the ones we celebrated on Wednesday.
We’re going to continue to invest in and support the key to our comeback’s success: our people. Public servants help get things done for our people, and we need DC residents more than ever to come work for DC Government.

 This week, Mayor Bowser highlighted District hiring initiatives that will be held in the new fiscal year. Sponsored by the Department of Human Resources (DCHR) the hiring events below will feature District agencies, local non-profit organizations, and private companies, some making on-the-spot job offers to qualified applicants.
Visit together.dc.gov to view a list of the following hiring events that will take place at MLK Library (901 G Street NW). All events require registration and below are the dates that registration will open.
- Thursday, November 9- DC Hires Vets
- DC Hires Vets will connect veterans and residents with District government agencies, local non-profit organizations, and private companies looking to hire. Registration is free and open to all, though veterans and spouses of all branches are encouraged to attend. Submit your resume starting Friday, October 27.
- Tuesday, February 13- Winter Hiring Event
- DCHR’s Winter Hiring Event will connect residents with District government agencies, local non-profit organizations, and private companies looking to hire. This could be your chance at a new career, so submit your resume starting Tuesday, January 30.
- Thursday, May 16- Spring Into a New Career
- Spring Into a New Career with DCHR’s spring hiring event. Start the season off right with a new job and career path and register starting Friday, May 3.
- Tuesday, August 13- Hot Jobs Hiring Event
- DCHR’s hiring events connect District residents with Hot Jobs in hot fields, allowing applicants to connect directly with jobs and organizations they are interested in. Start your transition to a new career by submitting your resume starting Tuesday, July 30.

The DC Department of Public Works (DPW) will not collect household trash and recycling collection on Monday, October 9. Trash and recycling collections will “slide” for the remainder of the week into Saturday. For example, households that normally receive trash and recycling collections on Monday, October 9 will be serviced on Tuesday, October 10.
The Benning Road Transfer Station is closed for renovations until further notice.
The Fort Totten Transfer Station will be closed to the public on Monday, October 9. All services will resume on Tuesday, October 10 for bulk trash and recycling.

  Join the District Department of Transportation for Open Streets on Georgia Avenue NW from Missouri Avenue to Barry Place. Open Streets offers communities the opportunity to experience their streets in a whole new way by temporarily closing roadways to vehicles to provide safe spaces for walking, biking, skating, playing, and other social activities. Attendees can expect to see free fitness classes, double dutch, chalk murals, live music, pop-up bike lanes, foam parties, a bike giveaway, and more.
