The public is invited to comment on medical interpreter testing and certification in Washington State. If you would like to share your input, please email your comments to workgroupssb5304@dshs.wa.gov. Comments received will be posted on the Public Comment page of the Language Access Work Group website. DSHS will review all comments and then issue a Response to Comments document, which will be posted on this site after the comment period has ended. The period for public comment will close at 5:00pm on Friday, October 27, 2023. The report is here: report Language Access Work Group DRAFT.pdf (wa.gov).
A bit more context: “Substitute Senate Bill 5304 Sec. 3 directed the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) to convene a work group with specific participants and develop a report to the Legislature on topics related to interpretive service certification testing policies and programs for limited and non-English-speaking Washingtonians.” DSHS decided to focus on medical interpretation specifically.
More information on this effort is located here: Language Access Work Group.
