2023-2024 Commissioner Search

Kentucky Board of Education votes to continue looking for firm to lead search for new commissioner

(FRANKFORT, KY) – The Kentucky Board of Education (KBE) voted to post a new request for proposals (RFP) to identify a firm to lead the search for Kentucky’s new commissioner of education during a special KBE meeting on Nov. 6.

The original recommendation to post an RFP for the commissioner search was approved during the KBE meeting on Aug. 21. KBE member Steve Trimble, leader of the board’s RFP Evaluation Committee, said committee members met Nov. 2 to discuss the bids they received and determined it would not be in the best interest of the Commonwealth to award a contract as a result of the responses reviewed.

KBE Chair Sharon Porter Robinson said due to strict limitations contained in KRS Chapter 45A, members of the RFP Evaluation Committee are limited in what they can discuss.

The reposted RFP must be open for responses for a minimum of seven business days, although a longer period of time is possible. The RFP may allow those potential firms to submit written questions to the solicitation, which KDE staff members will respond to. Once the vendor is selected, processing of a contract can take up to 30 days.
