Project Updates
When we officially began the work to clear out the eFORT Data Center in June of 2022, we had 145 racks in inventory. Going into November, only 63 occupied racks remain at eFORT.
The Colorado Department of Labor and Employment (CDLE) is set to migrate out of eFORT on December 9 and 10. The team is working closely with the CDLE team to ensure this migration will be a smooth transition. Planning and communication related to testing and migration plans will continue with our CDLE partners in the coming weeks. The project team is on track to move all state equipment out by July 2024, well before the end of the eFORT lease on Jan. 31, 2025.
Stay tuned for updates as the team continues working to exit eFORT and identify systems, servers and hardware for decommissioning or migration to the cloud or the Lakewood Data Center. With each successful move out of eFORT, we are consolidating physical IT assets, expanding the use of cloud infrastructure, and becoming more efficient in how our state data is collected, stored and used.
The Data Center Core Equipment Upgrade Project, a collaborative effort between OIT and Lumen (our managed service provider), will replace network equipment nearing end-of-life at the state’s five core data centers. Doing so eliminates the security risk posed by the older equipment. Since OIT and Lumen's teams began in August, they have completed upgrades at the eFORT Data Center and DOC headquarters.
In December, the teams plan to perform the upgrade at the Jetway Data Center. This upgrade will only impact DPA and DOR. The remaining five upgrade periods are still being scheduled.
With the migration of the mainframe to the vendor-hosted environment, the team is now focused on modernizing several critical applications. This includes incorporating IT Service Management (ITSM) into the new mainframe environment, leading to a better customer experience for our agency partners. We will also be one step closer to ensuring Coloradans will continue receiving life-sustaining benefits and support from our agency partners while setting the foundation for a modern, cost-effective, agile digital government in Colorado.
The team completed all of the remediations needed to move the project forward. The Social Security Administration (SSA) audit has been requested, and the SSA is scheduling its audits into December 2023 at this time. Once the audit is complete, the team will begin testing with affected agencies and systems.
Check out future editions of the Tech Debt Newsletter for updates on this project.
The work to modernize the system that generates ID numbers for Coloradans applying for benefits is now underway with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
The team is working to set up testing environments for Trails and Automated Child Support Enforcement System (ACSES) to begin user acceptance testing (UAT) with affected business partners.
The project is on track to go live on July 1, 2024. Stay tuned for more information to come.
The team is now working with the impacted agencies to test the applications post-remediation. They have remediated 100% of the identified vulnerabilities across all agencies, and the overall project is 96% complete. Five applications remain for CDOT, CDPS, CDLE, CDHS and DPA. Two applications are already on the books to be released this week. The team continues working with agencies to complete UAT and is close to the finish line!
