ECU’s P2 experts helped a brewing company cut pollution at the source, which also helps save energy and costs.
EPA P2 grantee East Carolina University (ECU) received its first P2 grant almost ten years ago. In that time, it has provided P2 technical assistance to local manufacturers, helping them reduce pollution, conserve water and save energy through lean and green practices. For example, ECU provided an energy audit for a brewery’s production warehouse in Newport, N.C. that was focused on manufacturing process and economic analysis. Through this technical assistance, the business is able to produce less waste which helps them save energy and costs.
As a recipient of EPA’s Environmental Justice in Communities P2 grant, ECU’s Center for Sustainable Energy and Environmental Engineering will expand their work into providing technical assistance to manufacturing facilities in disadvantaged communities to reduce the use and release of hazardous substances and increase water and energy efficiency.
