(FRANKFORT, KY) – The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) is seeking public comment on the state’s request to extend the period of availability of funds for Title IV, Part B (21st Century Community Learning Centers) and Title I, Part D Subpart 1 under the Every Student Succeeds Act.
The request for the waiver, which will be submitted to the U.S. Department of Education (USED), is meant to address ongoing needs stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic. It would give district 21st Century Community Learning Centers and community day programs, long-term secure juvenile facilities and the youth development centers that receive Title I, Part D, Subpart 1 funds more time to spend down their funds.
The full waiver can be accessed online on KDE’s website. To request an accessible version, please contact Meredith Brewer, KDE's director of education policy.
The public comment period will be Jan. 17-23. Public comments must be received by 5 p.m. ET on Jan. 23.
Comments may be emailed to kdecommunications@education.ky.gov or submitted to Todd Allen, General Counsel, Kentucky Department of Education, 300 Sower Blvd, 5th Floor, Frankfort, KY 40601. Comments also may be submitted via fax at (502) 564-9321.
All comments that are received during the window will be considered before submission of the waiver to USED.
