SUBJ: RESERVE OFFICER CANDIDATE INDOCTRINATION PLATOON OFFICER AND ASSISTANT
COURSE CHIEF SOLICITAION
1. The Coast Guard Leadership Development Center is seeking 4 officers (3 LTJG
-O2 or LT-O3, and 1 LCDR-O4) within the Reserve Forces to apply to serve as
Platoon Officers during the Reserve Officer Candidate Indoctrination (ROCI)
course this summer from 30 May to 10 July 2024.
2. Applicants must be highly motivated officers, possessing a strong
professional presence and reputation while exemplifying the characteristics
and traits expected of officers in the Coast Guard. ROCI is an intensive 5-week
program held at Officer Candidate School (OCS) in New London, Connecticut which
combines rigorous military and academic training, in addition to physical
fitness, professional development, and leadership courses. Each year the ROCI
course seeks 4 qualified Reserve officers to augment Active Duty OCS staff
during the training of Reserve Officer Candidates (OCs). The presence of
Reserve Officers on staff is integral to the successful indoctrination and
training of new Reserve officers.
3. Applicants must meet the following requirement to be considered for
selection:
   a. Be a Lieutenant Junior Grade (O2), Lieutenant (O3), or Lieutenant
Commander (O4) in the Coast Guard Reserve
   b. Submit a one-page narrative (CG memo) on desire to serve as a Reserve
Assistant Platoon Officer (O2 and O3), or as the Reserve Assistant Course
Chief (O4). Memo should cover suitability of selection, relevant skill sets,
and goals/expectations of participating in the program.
   c. Submit a signed command endorsement (CG memo) highlighting member's
suitability for the position and ability to perform in a high stress close
quarters training environment, as well as capacity to provide sound
professional mentorship, and perform in the role of an instructor within a
classroom environment. Command endorsement should also mention member's
ability to uphold military grooming and protocol standards.
   d. Submit a personal leadership philosophy (CG memo).
   e. Meet Coast Guard body weight requirements IAW COMDTINST M1020.08
   f. Have new or like new sets (x2) of Tropical Blue (Trops) and Operational
Dress (ODU) uniforms.
   g. Be able to perform sit-ups, push-ups, and complete 1.5 mile runs with
ease.
   h. Have personnel management experience within the Reserve Component
(scheduling, approving/executing drills, EERs, etc.).
   i. Experience with either Title 10 or 14 mobilizations is preferred.
   j. Be highly motivated with the ability to speak assertively in front of
large groups.
   k. Diversified teaching and instructor experience is preferred.
   l. Be able to accept 6-week ADOS orders from 29 May to 12 July 2024.(There
are four days of required staff training prior to the class convening date, and
one day of course debrief after class graduation)
