Community Collaborative

During our September 11th meeting, we tested our environmental and climate justice knowledge and heard about the Healthy Environment for All (HEAL) Act and the role of and recent grants from the Environmental Justice Council. The meeting also covered the Department of Health’s respiratory season immunization planning for COVID, flu and RSV, vaccine recommendations, and strategies for reaching out to communities with limited access. Collaborative Connections!  Heading to the Washington State Public Health Association conference?  Join us October 9 at 10:30 a.m. for a meet and greet with the Community Collaborative just before the day 1 session gets underway.  Add to calendar.

Several proposals discussed with the Collaborative have been submitted to Office of Fiscal Management (OFM) and Governor’s Office for the upcoming legislative session. You can find them here.

Funding Opportunities

Community Grants in Southeast Washington:  Greater Health Now’s Connect2Everyone awards $50,000 to $75,000 grants to organizations located in Asotin, Benton, Columbia, Franklin, Garfield, Kittitas, Walla Walla, Whitman, and Yakima Counties, and Yakama Nation.   Apply by September 30th.

DOH Overdose Prevention Grants:  The Department of Health is funding 5-7 NGOs with grants to support overdose prevention. At least 60% of proposed activities must be for direct client services.  Info session will be September 24 at 10:00 a.m.  Learn more and apply by October 15th.

Diverse Healers Wanted!  With a goal to center diverse communities in entering, accessing support and resources, and increasing representation within the broader youth mental health and healing fields, Best Starts for Kids is accepting Request for Proposals (RFP) for Diverse Healers for Youth Well-Being.  Apply by October 18th at 5pm.

Community Events & Webinars

Facing Fentanyl Together.  On September 20th from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m., the Department of Social and Health Services, Department of Health, Health Care Authority, tribes and community partners are hosting 26 Facing Fentanyl Together resource fairs at the same time on the same day across the state. Pasifika Community Summit. On September 28th 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. is a FREE event for all Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander community members (youth to elder) and their families who currently reside in the King County area. Breakfast, lunch and childcare available. Register for this event here.

Week Without Driving Challenge. The week of September 30th join Disability Rights Washington in this challenge for those who have the option to drive to learn about the barriers and challenges nondrivers face and work with nondrivers to create more accessible communities for all. Learn more. 

Health Equity in the 2024 Election. On October 3rd at 11 a.m., HealthBegins and the Health Equity Community Collaborative are holding a webinar Election 2024: What’s at Stake for Health Equity and How to Protect It.  Register for this event here.

Health Equity in Emergency Preparedness and Response: On October 23^rd at 1 p.m., join CDC’s Office of Health Equity to learn more about the organization’s emergency response work. Register for this webinar.

Contribute Your Wisdom

A proposed rule requires that all dispensing practitioners and dispensing facilities in Washington provide prescription information to the patient on the container in a format that can be accurately comprehended by the patient. An article from Domestic Preparedness called “Return on Investments in Public Engagement” covers how community partner engagement can help protect people from the adverse impacts of emergencies.

Governor Inslee signed an executive order making Washington the sixth state to join Reentry 2030. As a result, nine state agencies in will collaborate to improve conditions for successful reentry after imprisonment.

The 2024 Frontline Report on HEAL Progress from Front and Centered assesses state agency implementation of HEAL three years after its passage, along with this annual analysis of Climate Commitment Act revenue and spending.
