HCA seeks examples of bundled payment in care delivery
The Health
Care Authority (HCA) has issued a request for information (RFI) to learn more about what providers
around the state have done with bundled episodes of care. This will help inform
HCA’s future planning around bundled payments.
Bundled payments are a key strategy for HCA's move toward
value-based purchasing. By 2018, bundled
payments will be implemented agency-wide, to include both public employees and
Apple Health (Medicaid) populations.
Bundled
payments for clinical episodes of care entail paying one sum for the entire range of care, from pre-surgical visit to
surgery and discharge.
HCA created its first bundled payment program in 2016, when
it contracted with Virginia Mason Medical Center as a “center of excellence”
for hip and knee joint replacements for public employees enrolled in the
Uniform Medical Plan.
HCA will collect and analyze the RFI responses and share the
results at our Healthier Washington
Purchaser Conference and Symposium October 18-19, 2017.
