FOSTERING DEVON – Complaints
Leaflet for Children and Young People
When Devon was recently
inspected by care experienced young people through LILAC (Leading improvements for looked-after children) we met 6
of the 7 standards of participation and involving children and young people in
decision making. The standard we did not meet was in relation to complaints and
advocacy. One
aspect of this standard that was missing was in Foster
Carers knowing how to make a complaint so that they can support young people to
raise concerns at the earliest opportunity. The action we have taken as a
service, and in consultation with the participation team, is to produce the
attached leaflet which should be made available to all children and young
people in our care. The leaflet helps to describe the different ways children
and young people can make complaints.
We
are ordering printed copies of the leaflet to distribute to carers and an
electronic copy will be available on the website. We would also ask you to
familiarise yourself with the content and ensure that the children and young
people you look after also have a copy and are supported in knowing how to make
a complaint. Please feel free to print off a copy of the leaflet at home
pending us distributing printed versions.
