Celebrate Michigan’s lumber history with Wood Shaving Days at Hartwick Pines, July 15-16

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, woodworkers will demonstrate their techniques and show off historic tools, while blacksmiths will pound and shape metal into a range of practical and decorative items. A 1912 steam-powered sawmill will cut pine logs into boards, offering visitors a glimpse of the sights, sounds and scents of Michigan’s lumbering era. Other craft demonstrations will include period music, weaving and wool spinning.

The Logging Museum is a field site of the Michigan History Center and interprets the white pine logging era of 1840-1910. The Wood Shaving Days Festival is sponsored by the Friends of Hartwick Pines, and all proceeds go toward the interpretive and educational programs offered at Hartwick Pines State Park.
