Dear Washingtonians,
This week has been a hot one in Washington, DC, and forecasts show temperatures continuing to rise over the next several days. In fact, the National Weather Service is predicting that between Friday and Sunday, the heat index value will reach 105 degrees.
To help keep everyone safe, I am urging all of us to remain extra vigilant during the extreme heat. Over the next several days, take time to check on elderly or sick family and neighbors. If you see residents who are experiencing homelessness and struggling with the heat, call 311 to request transportation to a cooling center or shelter.
Go HERE to learn the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, and watch and share the video below to learn three quick tips for staying safe in the heat.
Learn more about the District's Heat Emergency Plan, cooling center locations, and other ways to beat the heat at heat.dc.gov. And follow #staycoolDC on Twitter for updates on the weather and tips for staying safe.
Stay cool, DC!
Sincerely,
ICYMI: The Department of Parks and Recreation's Rec Day has been postponed from Saturday, July 22 to Saturday, September 30 due to extreme heat.
