Help Us Spread The Word

Fostering Devon has recently launched a new ‘I can foster’ campaign to help find more foster carers for some of the 684 children in care in Devon.

Listen out for the new radio adverts voiced by our own foster carers, broadcasting across the Heart (Devon) network over the coming weeks.  Postcards will be landing on 50,000 doorsteps and a series of different messages and adverts will be delivered via Google and our social media channels.

If you are already a foster carer or member of staff and use Facebook or Twitter, we would really encourage you to ‘follow’ Fostering Devon and to share our adverts, posts and tweets far and wide.  You can find our Facebook page here and our Twitter page here.  If you know someone who would make a great foster carer, why not tag them in or encourage them to visit the website to find out more – www.fosteringindevon.org.uk

Free Cinema Tickets for children and young people in foster care in the Exeter and East Devon Area – all ages

Please take up this opportunity for a free cinema ticket (no strings attached!) for your fostered child!

The fostering service has a number of cinema tickets to give away to young people in care.  Initially these were offered via the newsletter to young people aged 16 to 18 in the Exeter and East area.  Due to the small number of requests we have received we then expanded this to include young people in foster care aged 14 to 18 in the Exeter and East area.  Unfortunately demand still continues to be low.  As such, we are now opening this up for any child in foster care in the Exeter, East and Mid Devon area (regardless of age).   Please see below for how to apply/guidelines -

Tickets will be issued as e-codes (by email), valid for 12 months (from the point they were issued to us – so expiry date will be in summer 2018).  They are valid at any non-London Vue Cinema.  They are for 2-D films only.  Tickets will be available on a first-come first-serve basis.  To request a ticket please follow the following instructions;

i. Send an email with the subject line CINEMA, this must include (1) Name of young person in care (2) Name of foster carer (3) Name of foster carers’ worker (4) Address of placement.  Email to fosteringassessmentsadministration-mailbox@devon.gov.uk.

ii. Only the carer providing the main placement for the young person can apply.  If the young person is on respite it should still be the main carer applying please (to avoid duplication).

iii. The first fifty applications received that follow these instructions will receive a reply with an e-ticket attached for each of the eligible young person in their care.  If you do not receive a reply then unfortunately you have not been successful – our apologies but replies to all emails cannot be guaranteed due to the possible volume of emails we might receive.

Virtual School – Story time Magazine

 Devon CC have signed up for the monthly Story time Magazine. Story time gives children brilliant stories in a fun magazine format, something that works for reluctant readers who won’t pick up a book, and appeals to children who do read books for enjoyment.  It’s used by thousands of schools around the world for class reading, for English as an Additional Language (EAL) children and class story telling.

Volunteers needed in Mid and East to help organise a Christmas activity

We are looking for foster carers in the Mid and East Devon area that would be prepared to volunteer to organise a Christmas activity for carers, their children and children in care.  You would have a budget from the fostering service for this, and guidance and support where needed.  Please email joanne.hyson@devon.gov.uk if you are interested.  We had some brilliant Summer activities organised by foster carers, and we are really hoping that a Christmas event could be just as successful.  Thank you.

Best Wishes

Jo
