CiC Awards 2018… the nominations are open!

On the evening of Friday 23 March 2018 at St James School, Exeter, we will be holding our annual event to celebrate the achievements of Devon’s Children & Young People in Care and Care Leavers.  This is a scheme to recognise and say ‘well done’ for real achievement for individual Children & Young People.  Anyone can nominate a Child in Care to Devon, see full details and nomination form via this link https://new.devon.gov.uk/educationandfamilies/young-people/children-in-care/children-in-care-awards

Fee

Foster Carers' Fees

Fostering Devon is reviewing the fees it pays foster carers to ensure fairness and consistency. We have set up a project team, to include foster carers, to work closely with foster carers across Devon. We held a workshop at the end of October when we invited a cross section of foster carers and social workers to meet with the project team and define the key principles of a fair foster care fee structure.

More events are planned so we can meet with all of you, and we have set up a mailbox to answer any questions you may have over the coming months. Click here to read the full article and find out more.

Additional Peer Support for One-Carer Households?

The fostering service are considering ways that we might be able to increase support to ‘single carers’ (one carer households).  We have had feedback from some carers that sometimes it can feel harder living with the challenges of fostering when you are on your own.  We were wondering whether ‘single carers’ would find it helpful to be in touch with other ‘single carers’ - sharing contact details with others in a similar situation could be a way of getting additional peer support.   If you are a single carer and would like to have your name and contact details shared with other single carers, please click on this link and provide your details.

South Support Group and Christmas Lunch

On Monday 4th December, the South Area Carers and Staff met for an Informal Support Group and Christmas Lunch, the event was really well attended with over 50 carers and some pre-schoolers attending. It was a great opportunity for carers from all over the south area to meet each other, all those who attended seemed to thoroughly enjoy the event and we’ve already booked for next year – although we think we may need a bigger hall!  Click here for the full story…
