Please join the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's South District to celebrate Global Wetlands Day. Presenters will cover the history of Florida's Wetlands as well as the importance of protecting our natural resources. Enjoy the story of Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, the Western Everglades and more.

  • 1:30 - 2:20 p.m. Reclamation to Restoration: The Story of Wetlands in Florida - Paul Julian, DEP
  • 2:25 - 3:00 p.m. Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary and the Western Everglades - Sally Stein, Audubon                   
  • 3:15 - 4:00 p.m. The Uniform Mitigation Assessment Method (UMAM) - Values, Concepts and Methods for Wetlands Evaluation - Elizabeth Sweigert and Daniel Sensi, DEP       


Meet the Presenters:

Paul Julian 
Paul is an Environmental Consultant and Everglades Technical Lead with DEP's Office of Ecosystem Projects, where he provides technical oversight for the ongoing Everglades restoration effort.

Sally Stein
Sally is the Director of Public Programs for National Audubon's Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary.

Elizabeth Sweigert
Elizabeth Sweigert is the Environmental Administrator for the Compliance Assurance Program in DEP’s South District Office. She has a B.S. in Biology from the University of South Florida. She has been with DEP for 15 years working primarily in the Submerged Lands and Environmental Resource Permitting Program. 

Daniel Sensi
Daniel is the Permitting Manager for DEP’s South District Office. He has a B.S. and M.S. in Marine Sciences and began his career with DEP as the Mangrove Coordinator in the division office located in Tallahassee.
