Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to the Texas Education Agency's new contact list curated for district Chief Academic Officers. You have been recommended by your Superintendent to be part of this group and to receive regular and relevant updates. TEA’s Office of Academics will be sharing information on topics such as assessment, accountability and the A-F system, special populations, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, school programs, and more.

Below is an example of the type of information you can expect to receive as a member of this contact list:

USDE Special Ed Corrective Action Plan

During the 2016-2017 school year, the United States Department of Education performed a series of onsite monitoring visits to review Texas’ compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The findings from that report require TEA to develop a plan to address four corrective actions. An integral part of the plan development process will be the gathering of input from stakeholders and other interested Texans.

Local Accountability System Pilot

House Bill (HB) 22 established Local Accountability Systems (LAS) which allow districts and charter schools to develop plans to locally evaluate their campuses. TEA will oversee a small-scale pilot program with 20 participating districts in the 2017–2018 academic year. The first of four required monthly meetings for pilot districts was held on January 11, 2018 as part of the local plan development.
