No-contact advisory issued for Port Washington Narrows and Phinney Bay due to combined sewer overflow (CSO)
Advisory in effect through Fri., Feb. 23
Affected area: Port Washington Narrows and Phinney Bay in Bremerton
Advisory: No-contact advisory
During
a no-contact advisory, the public is advised to avoid contact with the water in
the affected area. This means the District recommends against swimming, wading,
or types of water recreation/play where water could be swallowed or get in
the mouth, nose or eyes. People should also avoid direct skin contact if
possible, and immediately wash with soap and water if they have exposure to the
water. Signs have been posted at public access points including Lion's Park, Pat Carey Vista, Lent Landing, and Evergreen Rotary Park.
Shellfish harvesting:Commercial
and recreationalshellfish
harvesting is closed in the impacted area
due to ongoing pollution.
The advisory is in effect through Fri., Feb. 23.
Approximate location of sewage spill noted with bullseye.
Source
of pollution: combined sewer overflow into Anderson Cove due to a power outage reported by the City of Bremerton.
Spill volume: estimated at 4,600 gallons
