St James Opens Doors

It's lights, cameras and action at the multi million pound St James development.

Chairman of Dover District Council, Cllr Sue Chandler cut the ribbon to officially open Dover's new six screen 900 seat Cineworld cinema in March. Other stores have opened including Nando's, The Food Warehouse and Costa, the Travelodge is up and running, and a new M&S Foodhall opened in May.  And there's more coming soon!

Cllr Keith Morris, Leader of DDC said: "The £53m St James development is the biggest investment in the town centre in a generation."

Battle's Over - Get Involved In a Nation's Tribute On 11 November 2018

On 11 November 2018, the nation will mark the day 100 years ago when the guns fell silent at the end of WW1 - and communities across the district are invited to get involved.

Battle's Over is a unique series of events, involving organisations and communities across the nation.

DDC is working to help communities, and promote local events.  If you're planning, or would like to hold a Battle's Over event locally, please see our Battle's Over page.

Community Housing In Dover District

As we continue to develop housing options for the future, we're working with communities to tell people about help available for community led housing or self-build projects.

We're holding a Community Housing and Self-build Conference on 28 June at Discovery Park in Sandwich.  Entry is free, but pre-booking is required.

We've also launched Community Housing Grants, and are inviting community groups to apply to DDC for grants to help projects.

Driving Home The Message

DDC continues to drive home the message to people not to drop litter from their vehicles, and is working to clear our roadsides, including recent clearances on the A2 and A20, which collected over 15 tonnes of litter and debris.

Our contractors have been busy with partners clearing the busy A2 and A20.  Clearance work on the A2 and surrounding roads in May collected around 5 tonnes of waste, and work on the A20 in April picked up around 12 tonnes.

Staying Safe In The Hot Weather

Although most of us welcome the summer sun, high temperatures can be harmful to your health. The heat can affect anyone, but some people run a greater risk of serious harm. Common health risks caused by hot weather include dehydration, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and sunburn.

We are urging residents to practise sun sense and look out for others, especially those vulnerable such as the elderly, young children and those with serious illnesses.
