TEA is pleased to announce a grant
opportunity for local education agencies to participate in Gaining Early
Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP). These grants are
scheduled to be awarded for implementation in the fall of the 2018-2019 school
year. Selected grantees will be awarded up to $350,000 the first year; grantees
who successfully carry out grant requirements will be awarded up to seven annual
grants starting Fall 2018 and ending Fall 2024.
As noted in the Special Education Strategic Plan, there will be 10 new statewide networks beginning with the 2019-2020 school year. TEA has created videos to provide an overview of the 10 networks.
The General Appropriations Act, Article III, Rider 78, was
passed by the 85th Texas Legislature. Rider 78 ensures that state-funded
prekindergarten programs implement high-quality prekindergarten consistent with
the High-Quality Prekindergarten program requirements in Texas Education Code
(TEC) §29.167 – 29.171 and consistent with the provisions of TEC Chapters 41
and 42. The guidance documents for the components in Rider 78 have been
updated.
The STAAR Analytic Portal has been updated and campus, district, and region summary reports for
all spring 2018 administrations can now be accessed. Results for the spring
2018 grades 3–8 and EOC administrations are now available.
The 2018
Accountability Manual is currently in development. Chapter 10 is in the
June 8, 2018, edition of the Texas Register. Comments about Chapter 10 may be
submitted until 5:00 p.m. CDT on Monday, July 9, 2018. According to the
administrative rulemaking timeline, Chapters 1–10 are scheduled to be effective
by August 14, 2018.
