 Partnerships Provide More Opportunities For All
We’ve partnered with EvanSTEM, District 65’s initiative to provide more opportunities for kids from groups underrepresented in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics fields. EvanSTEM will recruit kids in 4th and 5th grade to attend a 4 day circuitry camp at the library during Spring Break. Laura Antolin, Youth Engagement Librarian, created the curriculum using Squishy Circuits, littleBits, and other fun challenges like getting an alarm to ring when a door in a model house is opened. Laura, who has conducted numerous STEM workshops, hopes that this program will be “a solid introduction to circuits." Big thanks to Kirby Callam, EvanSTEM’s director, for this continuing partnership.
Register starting March 18th, next Monday, for a small story time tailored just to your child's age. We will read great books, sing funny songs, craft, and have fun together.
What a great way to get your family in the habit of a weekly library visit and show that fun comes out of a book! Sign up for Infant Rhymetime (0-12 months), Book Babies (1 year olds), Time for Two's, 1, 2, 3 Play with Me (1-3) All by Myself (3 -5), Evening Family Storytime and Craft (3 - 7), or Tail Waggin Tutors (5-10). Ensemble Dal Niente, a Chicago group which performs new and experimental chamber music with dedication, virtuosity, and an exploratory spirit will be live at Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center. All are welcome!
Dal Niente’s full roster of 23 musicians presents an uncommonly broad range of contemporary music, while transforming existing ideas and subverting convention. Much of their repertoire has been premiered by these performers, who curate programs that feature the full palette of sounds available to contemporary woodwind players, from kaleidoscopic scales, to ethereal trills, to jazzy pizzicatos. Ensemble Dal Niente has performed concerts across Europe and the Americas, won numerous awards, and collaborated with a wide range of composers.
The concert is co-sponsored by the Evanston Public Library, Northwestern University, and the Evanston In-School Music Association with grant support from the Evanston Community Foundation, the Evanston Arts Council, and the Illinois Arts Council Agency.
All are welcome. No registration required.

Girls Be Heard! is an empowerment program to build confidence in speaking up. Over this four day workshop, girl-identifying 4th and 5th graders are led through learning, exploring and growing four key values: assertive communication, respect, body positivity, and self confidence!
Girls Be Heard will be held on Saturdays in April and is only open to children who attend school in District 65 or live in Evanston. Registration is required for this program.
