Dear Neighbor,
Hang in there with me - this is a long newsletter! But there’s a lot of important updates, I promise.
At the last Council meeting, our city took an important step with the concept approval of Upper Harbor Terminal. This has been an effort since the time I came into office, and represents an important investment in our northside. To be successful, it is imperative that it continues to move forward hand-in-hand with residents and leadership of North Minneapolis.
In this council cycle that culminates on Friday, I worked with Minneapolis Police Department to formally report back on their efforts to incorporate wellness and mindfulness into their leadership and training programs in new and important ways.
That report, to come back in the second quarter, will include how they intend to meet the Chief’s vision, how progress will be measured, what past wellness endeavors will be incorporated, and other steps necessary to implement a functioning program in a thoughtful, systematic and sustainable way. I can’t express enough just how important it is that we establish this program and offer the resources necessary to make it a success. The mental and physical well-being of our first responders is paramount in ensuring quality service and effective utilization of trainings. As we continue the conversation of what public safety means to residents and how we improve it, wellness and mindfulness must be at a focal point of that discussion.
Regards,
