Albany Flooding

HIGH WATER, YOU NEED TO GO.

My constituents are tough people and proved themselves this week.

HUGE THANK YOU and shout out to all the road crews, linemen, first responders, utility crews, and good Samaritans of our community. This recent flooding is an important reminder how necessary these services and specialists are to our community.

LB Gala 2019

LBCC Foundation Donations were realized at $146,000!

A spotlight was placed on higher education last weekend for the Annual Linn-Benton Foundation Gala. As local business owners, Mr. Davis and I were able to enjoy a rare moment with our community members and friends.

Because of community generosity and wonderful sponsors; more people WILL get the chance to go to college, who otherwise would not have had the opportunity. YOU made that happen District 15!

Kicker

A SMALLER KICKER

The collective “kicker” tax rebate Oregonians will likely receive when they file in 2020 is going to be $108 million smaller, thanks to a bill Gov. Kate Brown signed into law on Wednesday. https://www.oregonlive.com/…/gov-kate-brown-signs-reduced-2…

Unreal!

LBCC Welding

LINN-BENTON WELDING PROGRAM RECEIVES HUGE GIFT!

Exciting news for Linn-Benton Community College and District 15!

Selmet gifts LBCC with the resources, to expand their welding program. What a boon for our community, the students, and the welding workforce.

"...We need the trained and skilled employees that LBCC produces through its manufacturing programs. We are excited to deepen our partnership with LBCC and look forward to lots of LBCC grads coming to work at CPP-Selmet.” - Selmet Vice President and General Manager Marc Christman stated.

NEW Taxes!

Hold onto your pocketbooks...

The Super Majority is set on raising as much revenue as possible...Even while our state is seeing record revenue already. That spells bad news for working families, non-profits, businesses, and Oregonians all across the state.

This raises the question: How many more taxes can Oregonians take?

OREGON DISTILLERS

LOCAL DISTILLERS AND THE OREGON ECONOMY

Oregon Distillers are a key part of the State's Food and Beverage (F&B) focus.

F&B is Oregon's fastest growing manufacturing sector; 91% employment growth over 10 year period.

Business Oregon recognizes Oregon Beverages as "a core piece of the State's image."

LOCAL DISTILLERS SUPPORT OREGON AG

Grain, orchard fruits & nuts, cranberries, apricots, and grapes - are all a huge part of this industry!

LEGISLATION IMPACTING OREGON DISTILLERS

Current law requires our local distilleries pay 33 cents of every dollar to the Oregon Liquor Control Commission (OLCC) on sales from their tasting rooms. Unlike beer & wine tasting rooms. SB 108 lowers that requirement to only 5 cents of every dollar. This would align closely with the current National taxation rate.

Due to the inability to set their own prices, high taxation, and low volume of sales - 24 Oregon Distiller tasting rooms closed last year.

Despite the growth of industry, sales and tourism - Oregon Distillers struggle to make tasting rooms profitable.

LEGISLATION RECEPTION FOR EDUCATION

We attended the reception graciously hosted by the Oregon Distiller's Guild. We learned about the local resources used and products made, by our Oregon distillers. There were product samples from distillers. The high level of craftsmanship, ingenuity and enthusiasm, exhibited by these businesses - was impressive.

ODG's reason to come to Salem, was to advocate for SB 108 and educate legislators about the industry specific challenges. Jamie Howard owner (and District 15 constituent) of Deluxe Brewery and Sinister Distillery in Albany, is a board member on Oregon Distiller's Guild.

Jamie conveyed "the impact of SB 108 is the difference between losing money and making money."

Our local distillers are a point of pride for Oregon. Our Local Flavor. They deserve our support for many reasons!
