Dear Friends,
With such gratitude, Laurie and I wish you all a warm and wonderful time with friends and family this Thanksgiving.
Since my last newsletter, I have been busy supporting my kids at their sports playoff matches across the state, working in the Capitol to stay current on legislative issues, and meeting with folks all over Senate District 19.

I spent the morning of Veterans Day at the Lake Oswego Veterans memorial with friends and neighbors. Thank you to my high school friend, Captain Johnathan Puskas for serving as the master of ceremony at a powerful remembrance and appreciation. |

I had a wonderful time sharing my story and supporting the Democratic Party of Oregon at the annual holiday dinner. Thank you KC Hanson for the invitation and Governor Roberts for your inspiration. |

A special time was had by all honoring Representative Mitch Greenlick for his lifetime of leadership and service to Oregon. Thank you to Representative Brad Witt's office for organizing this event. Great seeing my friends Senators Frederick and Riley, and Reps Nosse and Sollman. |

Some of my amazing constituents at our monthly district coffee. Fantastic hearing thoughts on next steps for sensible gun safety from Moms Demand Action and folks pushing for legislation to address our climate crisis. We need your help in our 2020 short session to pull those bills across the line. |

Thank you to President Tim Cook and the Clackamas Community College Board of Directors for hosting the annual legislator breakfast! It was great hearing from my colleagues and CCC students about pathways to educational and career success. Our community college students are amazing! |

Senate Majority Leader Ginny Burdick and I split SW Portland in our districts - we had a joint town hall and heard from a packed room about issues from housing and homelessness to sensible gun safety, climate change, and disability rights. |

As part of my duties as a volunteer school board chair in Lake Oswego - I enjoyed the opportunity to tour our new Lakeridge Middle School and the complete seismic and safety improvements to Oak Creek elementary school. |
Upcoming Events
On Tuesday, December 3, from 5:30 - 7:30 pm, I will take part in a Joint Town Hall focused on transportation with Representative Rachel Prusak, Tualatin Mayor Frank Bubenik, Durham Mayor Gery Schirado, and Washington County Commissioner Kathryn Harrington! I look forward to seeing you there.
In the Capitol
This past week during November Legislative Days we celebrated the Governor’s ceremonial signing of Senate Bill 3 - providing a pathway for community college students to get applied baccalaureate degrees. Oregon is joining two dozen other states that allow students the ability to partner with local employers to pursue more advanced degrees at a community college. Thank you Governor Kate Brown for the support and Senate President Peter Courtney for the vision to introduce and champion the bill!
Last week State Senator Arnie Roblan announced he will be retiring from the Oregon Senate. When the announcement was made, I looked three desks over and the quote from Tom McCall came into my head - “Heroes are not giant statues framed against a red sky. They are people who say: This is my community and it’s my responsibility to make it better.” Arnie personifies this quote. I have known Arnie in many capacities, as a lawmaker, as colleague, and as a friend. This year he has left all Oregon children with a legacy - having led the effort to pass the Student Success Act. I am pleased that I have had the chance to carry the gavel in the Senate Education Committee following his leadership. I feel immense gratitude for having the chance to serve with Senator Arnie Roblan.
