Happy New Year from all the staff at the Adult Information Service.
The flu virus can live for many hours on hard surfaces and therefore practising good hand hygiene can limit the spread of germs and transmission of flu. People are advised to catch coughs and sneezes in a tissue, bin it, and then wash their hands afterwards to kill the germs. Practising good hand hygiene and giving eligible people the flu vaccine is the best defence against the virus.
The Catch it, Bin It, Kill It campaign is there to inform people about the steps they can take to protect themselves and reduce spread of the virus by practising good respiratory hand hygiene.

Winter and cold weather can have a significant impact on people’s health. One of the best ways of keeping yourself healthy and well during winter is to stay warm.
Keeping warm over the winter months can help prevent colds, flu or more serious health conditions such as heart attacks, strokes, pneumonia and depression.
The chances of these problems are higher if you’re vulnerable to cold-related illnesses because of one or more of the following:
- you’re on a low income (so can’t afford heating)
- you have a long-term health condition such as heart, lung or kidney disease
You can find further information and advice on the NHS website.

Young Carers' Awareness Day is an annual event, organised by Carers' Trust, and is taking place on 30 January 2020.
Every day across the UK thousands of young people help to look after someone in their family, or a friend, who is ill, disabled or misuses drugs or alcohol.
Recent research shows that one in five secondary school children may be a young carer. For many, their caring journey begins at a much younger age. Caring for someone can be very isolating, worrying and stressful. For young carers, this can negatively impact on their experiences and outcomes in education, having a lasting effect on their life chances.
If you know a young carer that may be in need of support find out more about young carers on the North Lincolnshire Local Offer website or visit the Carers' Trust website.
