Mission:

The mission of the Mayor’s Office on African Affairs (MOAA) is to ensure that the full range of health, education, employment, social services, safety, business and economic development information, services and opportunities are accessible to the District’s African immigrant community. 

By serving as the liaison between the District’s African immigrant community, District government agencies, and the Mayor, MOAA aims to improve the quality of life of the District’s diverse African-born constituencies and their children, increase civic and public engagement in the District’s African immigrant community, and support community development.

The Secretary of the District provides strategic planning, direction and management control of staff activities to meet the organizational goals and objectives. Responsibilities require the incumbent to deal with the complex day-to-day operations carried out by the staff of the Office of the Secretary. The incumbent is also responsible for developing, coordinating, directing and administering the offices budget and personnel efforts.

The incumbent shall develop an overall plan to comply with the Youth Bullying Prevention Act, serve as the central point to provide coordination and technical assistance to covered entities in their implementation of bullying prevention plans, and provide support, consultation and technical assistance to the Mayor’s Bullying Prevention Task Force.

Human Rights+Fundraising Intern

Belady

Belady seeks two interns, one focused on human rights and another focused on fundraising, for the fall semester. The ideal candidates are interested in human rights and the Middle East/Egypt, and have basic proficiency with websites and social media. Proficiency in Arabic is preferred, but not required.

The incumbent coordinates and delivers technical, management, financial, and administrative assistance to a country and project portfolio, and guides program delivery teams comprised of program delivery specialists and officers. S/he manages Program Specialists and/or Interns in addition to providing targeted support to a country(s) portfolio. Proficiency in at least one other regionally relevant language is preferred.
