As part of our work to integrate and streamline practices as a newly formed agency, DCYF has developed a draft Strategic Plan that provides the framework for our priorities.

Over the next five years, DCYF will focus on five Strategic Priorities – three relate to our goals for children, youth and families, and two relate to building necessary agency capacity to accomplish the first three. These strategic priorities are grounded in the agency's mission, vision, values and legislative purpose.

There is more work ahead for us to accomplish the priorities set out in the draft plan. The process to gather feedback on the draft will continue over the next few months with plenty of opportunity for engagement with staff and stakeholders.

The first half of the 2020 Legislative Session kept DCYF busy! Agency staff have presented on many priority topics and weighed in on proposed legislation. Catch up on everything in the video links below.

As policy and fiscal committee cutoffs wrap and the session progresses, DCYF continues to work closely with lawmakers, staff and stakeholders to provide feedback on proposed bills and ensure agency priorities are moving.

Child welfare and family support program staff joined me last week in welcoming Jerry Milner, the associate commissioner of the Children’s Bureau, during a visit to DCYF headquarters.

The visit began with a presentation from the Permanency from Day One Grant team, who provided an overview of what the grant proposed to the Children’s Bureau and how the grant aligns with the agency’s Performance Improvement Plan (PIP).

Milner also heard from a panel of stakeholders who spoke about ways they partner with DCYF, a panel of parents that described their case and provided feedback on ways to improve our interactions with parents and a youth who shared his adoption story.

The second half of the day involved discussions about Strengthening Families Washington, which included perceptions from a panel of parents and caregivers.
