Lake Flora Road closure

Extended closure on Lake Flora Road begins Monday, March 2nd

Lake Flora Road SW will close for about four months beginning Monday, March 2, 2020. The road has operated with alternating one lane traffic signal.

The existing 6-foot diameter metal arch culvert at Coulter Creek partially collapsed in January after a series of storms causing the road embankment to wash out. County engineering staff consulted with the Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) and other resource agencies to explore options to permanently replace the existing culvert. The permanent fix is an 80-foot bridge spanning a restored stream channel.

Ceccanti Inc., is scheduled to start construction March 3 and continue through June under a $1,200,000-dollar construction contract. Detour routes using Sunnyslope Road will be posted to direct traffic around the work.

“Coulter Creek is arguably the top priority stream for WDFW in West Sound/East Kitsap County”, said Brittany Gordan Area Habitat Biologist for WDFW. “This emergency project has multiple benefits,” said Tim Beachy, Project Manager. “It allows us to restore a safe roadway for vehicles and restore important stream passage for fish.”
