Two-Minute Training

Webinar Ready

Webinar trainings save time, travel, and cost. As webinars and other online trainings are used more frequently it’s important to be prepared so you have access at the start of the course. Software is constantly being changed and updated, and your ability to access a webinar can change since the last time you used it. To avoid last minute surprises log into the webinar before it starts in case there are updates or hoops to jump through.

To improve your experience with webinars, and make them more engaging, consider investing $30 (or less) in a headset with a microphone. This allows the user to connect audio and voice through your computer which will minimize disturbance to others in your office, eliminate the need to call in separately on the phone, and allows you to interact with the presenters.

Webex is the primary online training tool used by BWSR and NRCS. Take a couple minutes now to make sure you are prepared for upcoming webinars!

Technical Training & Certification Program Updates

Introducing Tech Talks!

Beginning in April, the Technical Training Team will host weekly webinars on a trial basis. Each webinar will take place on Monday afternoons, starting at 1:00 p.m. These webinars will cover a wide range of topics and will vary in length based on presentation content as well as questions and interaction from the participants. The schedule for the April webinars is (click here for more information):

Date: Topic: Description:
April 6 Critical Area Planting Kelly Voigt, TTCP Training Conservationist, will review Agronomy Tech Note 31 and walk through filling out the implementation requirements worksheet for PS342 Critical Area Planting. Please submit your examples and questions ahead of time and Kelly will incorporate them into this session.
April 13 Cover Crop Join Laurie Svien, TTCP Training Conservationist, for a review of Tech Note 33 and a walk through on filling out the implementation requirements worksheet for PS340 Cover Crop. Laurie will also review sources of information when planning and designing cover crop mixes.
April 20 EFT – Waterway for Beginner Designers Recent EFT-WDT training covered “how” to use EFT to design waterways; this webinar will cover more of the “why” of waterway design for those just learning waterway layout. Join Aaron Peter, TTCP Training Engineer, to bridge the gap from the basics (e.g. PS412 terminology) to applying it in a design software. For those brand new to waterways, acquire the basics first by watching Basic Grassed Waterway videos 1-3 on the TTCP Online Learning page. https://bwsr.state.mn.us/online-learning
April 27 PTMApp Matt Drewitz, BWSR Measures and Outcomes Coordinator, will provide an overview of what the Prioritize, Target, Measure Application does and how it is used for planning and implementation. Matt will provide a short demo of a web application that serves up PTMApp data and will talk about current and future development work.

The intention is for these training sessions to be informal and interactive. If you have example projects that you are working on, questions related to the topic, or other items you would like covered during the session please submit them to the Technical Training Team at: techtraining.bwsr@state.mn.us. To ensure there is time to review your submission before the webinar please send it one week prior to the date of the webinar.

These webinars will be held using Webex. Don’t miss out, see the Two Minute training this month about setting up Webex on your computer!
