Statement regarding Phase 2 variance eligibility

Gov. Jay Inslee today announced that Kitsap County was among ten additional counties eligible to apply for a variance to move to Phase 2 under his Safe Start recovery plan.The Kitsap County Board of Commissioners requested Kitsap be made eligible for a variance in a letter to Governor Inslee earlier this week. Commissioners said their request was possible only because county residents took the advice of public health experts, stayed home whenever possible, and reduced the number of new cases.

However, Kitsap Public Health District (KPHD) received confirmation early Tuesday that an employee at a Kitsap long-term care community has tested positive for COVID-19. Because additional cases at such a facility could significantly impact our COVID-19 response and variance application,the Health District will not be in a position to make a recommendation regarding the Safe Start variance until the health district completes the case and contacts investigation related to the long-term care case. The Kitsap County Emergency Operations Center has been working to position the county to meet the Governor’s criteria for moving forward under Safe Start. That advance work will speed the approval process once an application for a variance can be made.

Inslee announces restart of medical, dental services

Gov. Jay Inslee announced yesterday the state's plan to resume all elective medical and dental procedures. Each medical or dental practice will assess their own readiness and their communities’ COVID-19 activity to determine whether, and to what degree, they will reopen.

Under this plan, each health care or dental provider must meet certain criteria to begin performing elective procedures. Each provider evaluates its readiness to begin and must maintain standards to continue to see patients.

Updated COVID-19 survey dashboard

Kitsap Public Health has released the second set of survey results from the Kitsap County Community Health and Well-being COVID-19 Survey. Over 11,000 Kitsap County residents participated in the online survey open April 23-30.

The results include responses to all of survey questions except for the last open comment question, "Is there anything else you would like to share with us?" Kitsap Public Health will analyze these comments and release important trends at a later date.
