Household Waste Recycling Sites - more items accepted
Our Household Waste Recycling Sites (HWRS) will start accepting more items from this Monday (1 June). Residents will be able to dispose of garden waste, general household waste, wood, cardboard, electrical items, bulky items, white goods and furniture. Soil, hardcore, plasterboard, asbestos, tyres and textiles/clothes will not be allowed at this time. The mobile services at Selsey and the Witterings will begin reopening from Thursday 4 June for wood and green waste only, starting with the Witterings.

#NoExcuseForAbuse - support for victims of domestic abuse available 7 days a week
Since lockdown began, our WORTH Domestic Abuse Service has seen a 24% increase in reports compared to this time last year. As a result, we have made changes to provide additional support.
This means that during lockdown the WORTH service is now available seven days a week to support anyone who needs help:
- Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm: 0330 222 8181
- Weekends, including bank holidays, 9am - 5pm: 07834 968539
There is also a list of other support and resources available on our website.

Schools return - latest news
We have been working closely with West Sussex schools to support a phased return of pupils in a safe and managed way from Monday 1 June, in line with national guidance. Schools’ individual risk assessments are identifying how they can best manage this and maintain the safety of their pupils and staff. Find out more by reading our recent news story.

Support for West Sussex businesses
We are working with the Government and our partners to support businesses with help and advice wherever possible. Our district and borough council colleagues have been administering the business rates holidays and grants, which form part of the Government’s business support package. Winter’s tale of true grit – and record rainfall
The start of May marked the end of West Sussex Highways’ winter maintenance period which saw 39 call-outs for the gritting crews (the five-year average is 40) and 4,286 tons of salt used. But the standout statistic was February’s rainfall. It was the UK’s wettest February on record, with figures nearly three times the long-term average in West Sussex – 150mm of rain fell during the month, compared to the long term average of 53mm.

Have your say on local issues that affect you
Have your say on matters that affect you and your local communities - and get your residents to do the same - by visiting our Have Your Say Consultation Hub. From major road schemes and Joint Area Action Plans, to premises licence applications and safeguarding in our schools; we want to hear your residents' views to help shape future policy and decisions.
Current consultations include:
- Mid Sussex District Council and West Sussex County Council are asking for feedback about the sustainable transport projects of the Burgess Hill Place and Connectivity Programme. The Programme consists of a package of projects aimed at creating improved, high quality walking and cycling routes and public spaces to and through the town to encourage people to choose to walk, cycle or use public transport in the future.

Your Voice: The People's Panel
Alternatively, encourage your residents to join Your Voice: The People's Panel where they'll be regularly consulted about a number of important local issues. Once registered they'll receive links to surveys, reports and outcomes and occasionally links to other public surveys.
