Santa Barbara County Announces Two Additional Deaths of Persons with COVID-19

28 Additional Confirmed Cases Also Reported

Santa Barbara County Public Health Department (PHD) is reporting the thirteenth and fourteenth deaths among individuals who tested positive for COVID-19. One individual resided in the City of Lompoc and was in their 70’s with underlying health conditions. The other individual was a person incarcerated at the Federal Prison in Lompoc and was in their 50’s with no underlying health conditions. As of today, June 2, there are 1,697 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Santa Barbara County, 979 cases are at the Federal Prison in Lompoc, and 718 are community cases, and 1,559 have fully recovered.

“We are saddened by the loss of both of these individuals and express our condolences to their loved ones and communities. As we continue to battle the spread of COVID-19, we ask community members to continue doing their part by wearing facial coverings while in public and continued physical distancing,” said Henning Ansorg MD, Santa Barbara County Public Health Officer.

Although most cases of COVID-19 exhibit mild or moderate symptoms, PHD recommends additional measures to prevent exposure among vulnerable people, including the elderly and those with underlying health conditions (such as diabetes, cancer, immunodeficiency, asthma, COPD and others). PHD recommends that residents, especially those who are vulnerable:

  • Stay home when possible
  • When engaging in tasks away from home, remain six feet away from others and wear a facial covering.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water regularly.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
