Time Sensitive: Fall 2020 Return to School work sessions and community engagement

Greetings Braddock District Community,

This coming Monday, the School Board will conduct the first of two June Work Sessions on FCPS’ potential plans for reopening our schools this Fall. Due to the significant impact that these plans will have on our students, families and employees, I hope you will please review the detailed information below.

As with every important issue that impacts our schools, I am deeply committed to data-driven decision making that incorporates strong community input. Given many other countries around the globe are reopening their schools (they typically do not end until July), FCPS and other U.S. school districts can draw upon those experiences to help inform these important decisions.

As both a School Board Member and social worker, I believe it is vital to identify solutions that allow FCPS to safely reopen our schools as soon as possible. For those students, school-based staff, or their loved ones with health conditions, it will be essential for FCPS to offer quality distance-learning alternatives.

Thank you for being an engaged citizen, and know that I value your input regarding any issue facing our public schools.

Best wishes to you and your loved ones,

Megan

Return to School Information

Earlier this week, Governor Northam directed that Northern Virginia will be entering Phase 2 of reopening today, June 12, 2020. In response, the Fairfax County Park Authority has announced additional facility openings and FCPS has announced the opening of athletic fields, basketball courts, and playgrounds in accordance with Phase 2 guidelines.

In addition, Governor Northam presented initial guidelines for reopening schools. FCPS has created a Return to School webpage that is updated as new information becomes available.

Please see below for information about upcoming work sessions as well as ways to participate in the Return to School process for the 2020-21 school year.
