What to do if you hear about a coronavirus case in your business

If a member of staff or customer tells you that they suspect they have (or have tested positive for) coronavirus, please contact the Public Health England Hampshire and Isle of Wight Health Protection Team (South East) by calling: 0344 225 3861.

Face covering exemptions

With the introduction of mandatory face coverings in shops, supermarkets, indoor shopping centres, banks, building societies and post offices from today (Friday 24 July) all shops should be aware of the exemptions from having to wear a face covering.

A list of exemptions is on the GOV.UK website.

Please remember that not all disabilities are visible. Some people will wear lanyards with sunflowers indicating that they have a hidden disability.

Small firms can now access free one-to-one advice with an expert adviser through the Recovery Advice for Business scheme.

Advisers can help businesses through the coronavirus pandemic and help with preparations for long-term recovery.

Register now for Eat Out to Help Out

You can use the Eat Out to Help Out scheme to offer a discount to diners and encourage them to eat at your restaurant.

Businesses will need to register with HMRC by 31 August.

Businesses that are taking part in the scheme can download promotional materials including posters and images to display in their premises.

Eat Out to Help Out webinars

HMRC are running free webinars over the next two weeks on the Eat Out to Help Out scheme. The webinar provides an overview of the scheme, including how the scheme works, eligible establishments, registering and making a claim and what happens after a claim has been made.

Discretionary grants

The second round of Local Authority Discretionary Grants closed at midnight on Sunday 19 July.

We received 50 new applications and carried 13 over from the first round which became eligible due to changes in grant criteria. The new applications will now be checked to ensure their eligibility.

We are aiming to decide the grant awards by the end of July.

Guidance for businesses reopening from Saturday

Indoor pools, gyms and leisure centres will be able to reopen from this Saturday (25 July).

Reduced VAT rate for hospitality, holiday accommodation and attractions

The HMRC guidance for businesses to check if they can temporarily reduce the rate of VAT on supplies relating to hospitality, accommodation, or admission to certain attractions has been updated to include a new section on Retail Schemes.

Catering businesses using retail schemes may have to alter their accounting systems for the period 15 July 2020 to 12 January 2021.

The UK transition

The UK has left the EU, and the transition period after Brexit comes to an end this year. Businesses should take action now to get ready for new rules from January 2021.
